People and Partners

The Business and Human Rights Scholarship: Global South project brings together researchers, institutions, and partners working across different regions to support collaboration, knowledge exchange, and sustained engagement in the field of business and human rights scholarship.

The project is led by an interdisciplinary team with expertise in international environmental law, business and human rights, and Global South research contexts, and is supported by institutional collaborators in Africa and the United Kingdom.

Dr Eghosa Ekhator

Principal Investigator

Associate Professor of International Environmental Law

Dr Eghosa Ekhator is Associate Professor of International Environmental Law at the University of Derby and serves as Principal Investigator for the Business and Human Rights Scholarship: Global South project.

He leads the AHRC-funded Research Networking Grant, Business and Human Rights Scholarship: Developing Networks and Perspectives from the Global South (April 2024 – December 2025). His research focuses on international environmental law, business and human rights, climate justice, and Global South perspectives.

Dr Oyeniyi Abe

Co-Investigator / Consultant

Dr Oyeniyi Abe contributes to the project as Co-Investigator and Consultant. He brings expertise in business and human rights scholarship and has supported the development and delivery of project activities and research networking initiatives.

Institutional collaborators

The project works in collaboration with academic institutions that support research, training, and knowledge exchange in Global South contexts.

The Centre for Comparative Law in Africa (CCLA) at the University of Cape Town is an institutional collaborator on the project and hosted one of the project’s international workshops in April 2025.

Riara University is an institutional collaborator and hosted a project workshop in Nairobi in June 2025. The collaboration supports engagement with scholars and institutions in East Africa and contributes to the project’s regional and international reach.
